About JTI
To address climate change, countries will continue to transition away from emissions-intensive activities and take steps to build more sustainable and resilient communities and economies. The importance of achieving a just transition in the face of these transformational changes has grown in recent years as both the disruptive impacts of a changing climate and the scope and scale of the necessary transformations becomes more apparent. Yet governments, labor groups, investors, civil society organizations, and multilateral development institutions still lack concrete tools and practical guidance to help achieve a just transition.
The Just Transition Initiative (JTI) is a partnership developed by the Energy Security & Climate Change Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) to investigate how to achieve a just transition through the transformational change necessary to address climate change.
In the first phase of the initiative, the JTI team conducted a systemic analysis of the various understandings and components of a just transition, engaged a wide range of stakeholders through events, podcasts and outreach, and developed a curated library of resources to provide information and guidance.
Throughout the second phase of the initiative, the team will expand the resource library and develop policy recommendations and strategies informed by case study analysis, consultations, and literature review. The initiative will continue to engage stakeholders to facilitate learning and identify gaps and priorities for future research. Please refer to the events page or contact us using our feedback form to become engaged in the JTI community.
